CabinetsKitchen and bath cabinets are a frequent request. I also do cabinet refacing and kitchen and bath remodeling. Custom cabinets differ from stock cabinets (which come in standard sizes and limited styles and colors) because there are no limits in terms of style or size. Custom cabinets are built to your specifications and can include all sorts of special accessories and options not available in stock cabinets. Cabinets come in one of two ways: framed or frameless. Traditional cabinets are generally framed. That means they have a full frame across the face of the cabinet that may show between the closed doors. An example of this is the cabinet pictured directly below. Wider cabinets are an option with framed cabinets because the frame strengthens the cabinet with a center rail.
Hanging cabinet made out of pine, shown open and closed, with 3 shelves, glass doors, and antler knobs.
Frameless cabinets are made without a face frame. The doors are closefitting and cover the entire front of the cabinet box.
Bathroom makeover, with slab walls, barn siding cabinet, medicine cabinet out of pine with mirrors, trimmed in rope. Vanity made of pine.
Raised or recessed panels, framed panels, or framed-glass panels with or without muntins (those are the narrow vertical and horizontal strips of wood that divide the panes of glass) are all options for the doors.
Tie cabinet, made of pine, and finished in honey oak. Double doors, with jewelry drawer underneath.
The following are examples of kitchen refacing. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts were replaced, and the existing cabinet facings were covered. A new light fixture was made, and new counters and sink installed.

Custom features for cabinets are expensive, but in terms of efficient storage they are well worth the extra expense. Appliance garages hide small appliances, but keep them in reach. Lazy susans maximize corner storage by rotating 360 degrees. Carousel shelves are attached to the back of the cabinet doors and rotate 270 degrees. A fold-down mixer shelf is a great custom feature. It is a spring-loaded shelf that swings up and out of a base cabinet for use and then back into the cabinet for storage. Slide-out shelves are a favorite feature. They make excellent use of base cabinets, increasing storage space and accessibility. Slide-out bins are also an option. Tilt-out trays are often located in the wasted space in front of the sink, or above base cabinet doors. This nifty feature looks like a drawer, but tilts open instead. Built-in pantry units are also great storage maximizers. These are fitted into narrow spaces that often go unused. Other options include: Islands are also popular custom-made pieces. These can be made to any dimensions, with any combination of shelves, drawers, pull-outs, etc.
Bathroom vanities are a frequent custom order item because of the odd space they're to fit into. The extra storage options and ability to create a piece to fit precisely are often the deciding factors. Vanities have the same design options as kitchen cabinets. Medicine cabinets are also possible. Contact me regarding questions or estimates by going to my Questions page.
