How to Order
Having a piece of furniture made to your specifications can be an
exciting experience. It can also be a frustrating and disappointing one. To
keep the experience fulfilling, I need specific information. In essence, I
take your idea, with your dimensions and turn it into a solid, 3-dimensional piece of
furniture. While you won't be able to see the final piece before it is completed,
the more clear you are about what you want, the more likely I will be able to make the
piece the way you envision it. Remember, you won't be able to return a custom piece
of furniture.
To order a piece of custom furniture, it is necessary for you, the
client, to provide me with the following information:
 | Accurate dimensions. This includes accurate measurements for
each and every detail of the item to be constructed. From all sides. A drawing
is preferred, but I can work without one, IF I have accurate
dimensions. I need the overall dimensions - height and width and depth. Add
dimensions of shelves, drawers, cabinet doors, and any other detail that is to be
constructed. An example of a drawing is shown here. |

 | If there are doors, should they be
overlay, lipped or flush?
|
 | Specify whether cabinets should be framed or frameless. See
the Cabinets page for information. |
 | Identify the style. For example, this could be Rustic, Arts
and Crafts, Shaker, Victorian, Mission, Contemporary, etc. A picture of what you'd
like would be very helpful. |
 | Specify the type of wood to be used. This can be most
anything you want, but remember that the more exotic woods cost more. If you would
like estimates for different types of wood, tell me which ones you'd like to consider.
See the How to Design page for wood examples. |
 | What type of hardware do you want? This includes the hinges,
drawer pulls, and door knobs. |
 | What kind of finish do you want? Do you want to finish
the piece yourself? |
